After the lunch break, it was time to introduce JOHN CHRISTIAN, a handsome man with a smiling, impish face that bursts into infectious laughter.

John had spent the lunch-break redecorating the room. From every angle there were posters displaying wisdom and inspiration. "The best way to predict the future is to invent it now". "Passion - Vision - Action. This is the formula for success." "Learning is more effective when fun!"

John's talk was to be on CHARISMA, something that he has in abundance.

Having been a highly successful entertainer in the music world, John knows how to relate to an audience and to put it at ease. He travels the world holding workshops on various life-skills. He also records albums of inspirational songs.

"What is Charisma?" he asked.

A hundred examples flowed from his audience. Personality! Sex appeal! Love! Courage! The list grew with positive qualities. "What do charismatic people draw out of you?" asked John. The answers were various. Inspiration, enthusiasm, jealousy, desire!

"What are the characteristics of a non-charismatic person?" Once again a multitude of answers, but all of them negative. Low self-esteem, insecurity, bitterness, unattractiveness.

Then John asked the question: "Do we see ourselves in all of these things?" The answer was yes!

Sometimes we can be courageous, magnetic and loving, but then we can also be insecure, have low self-esteem and are jealous. We are on a see-saw between charisma and non-charisma. So, what is it that makes the difference? What is it that swings the see-saw? The answer is our thoughts and our self-talk.

There is an intelligence behind everything, and we can tap into that intelligence. All it needs is 50 per cent of our attention to be concentrated to have an effect. This Intelligence is to be found in our Inner Self. Inner Self is the teacher, our free-will is the servant. It is up to us whether the servant listens to the teacher.

Our nervous system cannot tell the difference between imagination and reality. We can hand it good imaginings of goals and dreams or we can give it the the negative imaginings of fears and doubts. We create our reality. Most of us are giving our nervous system 50 per cent of concentration on the negative.

We must take responsibility for our thoughts. Thoughts are powerful creators. Everything on this earth was once a thought. Every problem we ever had was caused by a thought. Our thoughts affect our body, career, relationships and attitudes.

There are Charisma Chrunchers and Charisma Enhancers. The Crunchers are our negative thoughts, the pressures we put on ourselves, worry, anger, fear, and a need to be liked and seek approval. The Enhancers are to be found in a positive attitude, in shared laughter, relaxation and enjoyment. Exercise, meditation and study are all powerful enhancers of charisma.

When we have a vision or a feeling of inspiration, this is often followed in the human mind by doubt. If we give in to that doubt it becomes an inner struggle. We hesitate, become confused and indecisive. This saps our energy and leaves us with feelings of depression and a negative outcome. However, if those doubts following that first burst of inspiration are allowed to dissolve through relaxation and a calm mind, persistence can follow, and this leads to clarity which generates an enthusiasm that takes us forward into action. The choice is ours; we must take responsibility for the thoughts in our mind.

John managed to pack so much valuable information into his seventy-five minutes, all done with fun and humour. It proved to be a perfect "taster" of the exciting seminars and workshops that John offers throughout the country.
